How to Make Turmeric Curcumin Superfood Soup for Pain Relief

By Evelyn

Individuals who deal with arthritis know all too well about the uncomfortable pain caused by chronic inflammation. Far worse than simply causing joint aches and pains, unchecked inflammation can also lead into the development of diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. Thankfully, there are a great deal of foods out there that can help with relieving inflammation in the body. Turmeric is one such food, as the spice contains a compound known as curcumin that helps to relieve the pain caused by inflammation. Today I’ll be sharing a recipe that shows you how to make a turmeric curcumin superfood soup for pain relief. Made with ground turmeric, the soup also includes a hearty mix of fresh vegetables, deliciously spicy peppers, and a tasty chicken bone broth for good measure.

A Superfood Soup Made With Superfood Ingredients

The great thing about this soup is the sheer number of anti-inflammatory ingredients that go into making it. For starters, you’ll be adding what is quite possibly my favorite ingredient combo of all time – three minced garlic cloves and one medium onion. Both are members of the Allium family and are highly regarded for the amount of flavor they add to recipes, their immune boosting properties, and even some rather substantial cancer prevention properties. You’ll also be adding ½ of a green chili and one thinly sliced red pepper. Both of these ingredients contain a compound known as capsaicin, which is primarily responsible for giving them their spicy hot taste along with their great health benefits. Not only does capsaicin help to promote cardiovascular health, it’s also a great anti-inflammatory pain reliever as well. (2)

The 1 ¼ teaspoons of ground turmeric makes for another great combo when paired with the capsaicin content provided by the peppers. Curcumin actually provides many of the same great benefits as capsaicin. Turmeric extract is actually incredibly popular as a supplement for relieving the pain caused by arthritis thanks to it’s potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. (3)

The soup also provides an abundance of essential vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, antioxidants, and other phytonutrients thanks to the healthy veggies that go into making it. You’ll be using cauliflower florets and sweet potato for this particular recipe (if you’d like to check out another great anti-inflammatory vegetable soup recipe, click here), along with a bit of fresh grated ginger and one can of chickpeas. The only other ingredients you’ll need are two cups of water, one cup of coconut milk, and four cups of a low sodium chicken broth – alternatively, you can use your own homemade bone broth by following our Instant Pot broth recipe.
