Farm-Fresh Egg Drop Soup for Weight Loss
One of the best kinds of meals that you can freely enjoy if your goal is to lose weight is a bowl of homemade soup. Soup is light enough to keep calories low while still being nutrient-dense enough to make sure your body is getting everything it needs. This farm-fresh egg drop soup is a great example of what I’m talking about. It’s a tasty low calorie soup that still provides you with a solid amount of protein, healthy fat, and essential vitamins and minerals. And the best part of all is how incredibly easy it is to make this recipe, as it can be prepared from start to finish in only 15 minutes.
A Healthy (And Easy) Egg Drop Soup That’s Oh So Satisfying
I can’t stress enough how easy it is to make this soup recipe. Requiring only a few simple ingredients and 15 minutes of time, it’s one of the best soups you can make if you’re pressed for time but still craving a meal that will hit the spot. The first thing you’ll need to do is heat up three cups of bone broth. We’ve actually shared a couple of different recipes for making your own homemade bone broth – one of them makes a spicy turmeric bone broth while the other is for a less spicy but still collagen-rich Instant Pot bone broth. Collagen provides many great benefits for your connective tissue, bones, joints, and skin – it’s actually a common ingredient used in many commercial anti-aging supplements. (1)
After bringing your bone broth to a boil, season with just a bit of salt to taste before adding in your slightly beaten egg. If there was ever a food out there deserving of the label ‘superfood’, it would have to be eggs. While eggs have been demonized in the past because of their saturated fat and cholesterol content, more recent research has proven that saturated fat and dietary cholesterol aren’t quite as bad for you as they’ve been made out to be. (2) Whole eggs actually provide a solid amount of protein, saturated fat, and an abundance of essential vitamins and minerals. Stir the egg into the broth until the mixture is clear and slightly thickened.
Remove the pot from the heat and then you can stir in one teaspoon of sesame oil and a pinch of ground white pepper. Adding the sesame oil loads your egg drop soup up with even more heart healthy fats, as it contains a good mix of saturated, polyunsaturated, and monounsaturated fatty acids. Sesame oil also contains a potent amount of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that provide even more protection against heart disease. (3)
When you’re ready to serve the soup, I’d recommend garnishing it with one finely chopped scallion for a bit of added flavoring. It helps to give the soup a delicious onion-y flavor that’s not quite as intense as using a whole onion would be. I particularly like it when combined with our homemade turmeric bone broth recipe – so yummy and it provides a one-two punch of ingredients to help you burn more fat!
